Do you ever stop to think about America as a country and what a marketing machine it has been, in say the last 100 years or so? Everybody outside of America knows about the US-of-A, but a large majority of people in ‘Merica’ are unaware of what goes on in the outside world. Luckily, technology is expanding our thoughts, making us more connected and exposing us to other people’s lives, how they live and where they come from.

Our guest this week, is a first generation immigrant. Christie Lindor, born in Boston, Massachusetts, to her Haitian parents. She grew up with her 7 sibling’s, 6 brother’s and 1 sister! Growing up in such a large house was like living in a community centre. For Christie, being an introvert, it was quite a crazy childhood but looking back on it now, it was a magical one.

Growing up with not much money, being an introvert and living in a community with interracial racism, left her feeling more ostracised than most people.

In life, there are often trigger points which are catalysts to push us to improve ourselves. For Christie, landing her first job as a teenager, gave her some money which allowed her to start buying things so she could establish her own identity. Never one to shy away from hard work, she joined a community college to improve her grades to achieve the levels required to get into university and hopefully, a scholarship of some sorts.

Through her tenacity and strategising, she managed to land the job of her dreams as a management consultant. Something she never imagined possible while growing up.

Things eventually took their toll and the stress of travelling 250 day’s a year together with the sad events of 3 death’s in her family, caused Christie to revert back into her shell and find solace in alcohol.

In the Podcast we discuss, American politics, unspoken crimes, the importance of community, Seth Godin’s alt-MBA, her book and Podcast, advice to young consultants, how to publish a book and what 9/11 meant for her.

This is a lady, determined to teach and help others as well as leave a positive and lasting legacy.

We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.

Let’s find out what it means for Christie Lindor to be Ridiculously Human
