Ex-professional footballer. Jokester. Role model. Player agent. Loving husband. Nature lover. Sean bares all. Sit back and hear his story.

From afar, the world of being a professional football player does indeed look glamorous. In many ways it certainly is, however, it’s what we don’t see where the conundrum and anomalies lie.

For many young boys it is their dream to play a professional sport of some sort. The amount of dives by young boys into thin air, imagining they are saving a penalty in the World Cup Final is innumerable. The truth is that it takes a special type of person to follow through with this journey.

Sean grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and started his career as a goalkeeper at Panorama Soccer Club at 5 years old. Turning professional at 15 years old involves a lot of sacrifice however Sean also recalls it as some of the best times in his life.

After relocating to the UK and after his 7th trial at different clubs, many others may have thrown the towel in but he eventually got the nod and call up to sign his first contract with Crystal Palace.

We hear about his career which involved many highs and lows, various clubs, different countries and continents. These were all a culmination of learning curves and experience to help Sean understand what his ‘second skill’ was when he eventually retired from professional sport.

In the Podcast we cover many interesting subjects such as transitioning from professional sport to real life, the glamour of football, training routines, reserve leagues, understanding who your mates really are, injuries, player agents, finances, travel and finding love.

Sean these days can be found in Sea Point, Cape Town, where he is working as a player agent providing advice and support for players when ‘real life’ really begins

We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.
